Sheet Piles

The main application of sheet piles is in retaining walls and cofferdams erected to enable permanent works to proceed. Stent's wealth of experience and breadth of plant and equipment puts it amongst the leading UK suppliers in this area.

Basic Technique

Steel sheet piling consists of sections with interlocking grooves along each edge. Common designs used include Frodingham and Larssen sections, each with a slightly different clutch and mechanism. Each pile is engaged with and driven in alongside the previous one, thereby creating an impervious wall.

Technique Enhancements

Hydraulic Press

Using the Tosa or Giken rigs, once the initial pile is in place, subsequent piles can be jacked into position with negligible noise and vibration, using water jetting or pre-augering on dense gravels or stiff clays.

High Frequency Vibration

The purpose designed ABI telescopic Leader rig and the PTC 13HF1 and 7HF1 all using high frequency vibration for pile driving. High outputs can be achieved with low levels of noise and destructive ground-bone vibrations.

Drop Hammer

The HPH1200 features a one tonne double acting hydraulic drop hammer combining high outputs with low overall weight.

Strengths

  • High productivity

  • Wide range of driving and extraction equipment

  • Can be used in restricted headroom

  • "Silent" and "Vibrationless" techniques are available
