Stent Cuts in on The Shard

Shard 2

Leading foundation and piling specialist Stent is preparing the ground for an iconic piece of architecture that will be Europe’s tallest mixed use building.

 

When it is complete in 2012, The Shard will reach 310m into the sky above Southwark. But before main contractor Mace can begin construction of the stunning 80-storey tower, substantial loadbearing works are required.

Pennine Reinforces Foundations in Ireland

Leading ground improvement specialist Pennine, part of Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering, is continuing to expand its contracting business with the opening of a new office in Dublin.  The move will increase Pennine’s presence in Ireland following the opening of a Belfast office in 2008 and will allow the company to provide a local service to clients in Eire. Contaminated Land Clean Up Enters New Fields

New legislation in force means that companies disposing of waste from treating contaminated land will soon have to start paying landfill tax.  Under the EU's Landfill Directive, the UK Governement has set its targets to remove landfill tax exemption by 1 April 2012, in a bid to work towards a future where we are much less reliant on landfill sites for handling our waste, and at the same time to encourgae a more sustainable approach yo how we assess and remediate contaminated land.
