GRB 'Self-Feed' Materials
The GRB system is a true revolution of sheet pile construction methodology. On a conventional project a large amount of working space is required to track a handling crane alongside the piler to handle and pitch the sheet piles in to the rig, but with this system, the handling crane also sits on the sheet piles directly behind the Giken rig and ‘self-feeds’ the sheet piles in to the chuck of the piler, therefore saving the costs of platform construction for the handling crane.
Once the GRB crane cannot reach the main stockpile of sheets a pile runner can be utilised, this is a ‘self-powered trailer’ that also runs along the previously installed sheet piles and operates between the stockpile of sheets (loaded by handling crane) to the clamp crane, carrying approximately 4-5 sheet piles at a time. This creates the opportunity to sheet pile any linear distance required whether it be along river banks, next to buildings or even across large water crossings. This method can be used for both u-piles and tubular piles.
